Sagano Bamboo Forest, Japan

This stunning bamboo forest is located in the Arashiyama district on the west outskirts of Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the most amazing natural sites in the country. An interesting fact about Sagano Bamboo Forest is the sound that the wind makes while it blows through the bamboo. Amazingly enough, this sound has been voted on as one of the “one hundred must-be-preserved sounds of Japan” by the Japanese government. Another interesting fact – the railing on the sides of the road is composed out of old, dry and fallen parts of bamboo.

I desperately want to go here the next time I’m in Japan.

Czech artist and visionaire Michal Trpák played a major role in the art installation happening over at Prague’s EBC office center. His “Slight Uncertainty” figurines have been a whimsical, yet somewhat melancholy presence in the building.

In Jonathan Schipper‘s To Dust, two classical sculptures hang upside down from one mechanism.  The mechanism slowly grinds the sculptures together.  A pile of fine dust gathers beneath the sculptures as they wear each other away.  Over the course of several years the sculptures are expected to eventually destroy each other.
